Jan-Jan Van Essche is a menswear designer from Antwerp, Belgium who graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 2003. While other designers design a minimum of two collections year, Jan-Jan only designs one full collection where each piece can be worn throughout seasons by layering them.
Since 2013, Jan-Jan started to design ‘projects’ along his collections. The projects are autonomous concepts claiming their own identity and simultaneously emphasizing the philosophy of Jan-Jan.
His design aesthetic can be described as a melting pot of western and ethnic traditions in fashion.
The combination of loose forms, refined patterns and the use of natural colors Jan-Jan truly found his signature design style encouraging universal freedom to whoever wears his garments.
